Samsung announced a new controller for the Gear VR at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week. The controller includes a touchpad and trigger, as well as buttons for home, volume and back controls that will make it easier to navigate apps and do things like aim, shoot and grab items.
As with the headset, the peripheral was created with help from the team at Oculus. Oculus and Samsung did not specify a release date for the controller, nor information about pricing, but we can expect the controller to be bundled with new phone purchases.
In addition to the new Gear VR controller, Samsung also revealed the release date of the Galaxy S8 smartphone at MWC. Samsung’s new Galaxy S8 line of phones will feature Infinity Display, which is a high-definition Super Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode (AMOLED) screen. VR and AR technology demands very high-end displays, and OLEDs are seen as the ideal technology - as it features high response time and better contrast compared to LCD displays.
